To CAMP or not to CAMP????
A CAMPING we will go!!!
I know we are camping because I invested in a TENT which is necessary for camping. I reached out to REI and sadly they did not find our story compelling enough to offer free camping equipment. BooHoo! They are really missing an awesome opportunity for a great story about non-campers going camping!
Not car camping but REAL camping…well in a campsite anyway.
I was all ready to purchase the 3 person dome tent from REI at $199.00. Then a little birdie whispered in my ear (thank you, Sharie)…LOOK on Amazon. We did and found a 4 person Coleman dome tent for $53.00. We are camping no more than 10 days so I figured let's go with the less expensive tent. I am trying to keep the cost down of course, and playing a game with myself to see how little we can spend on this trip. WAIT…did I say 10 days of camping??? Yikes!!!
I am wondering about this tent and the large box it came in. Not only are we trying to keep cost down but also trying to fit all our supplies for 6 weeks in a small SUV. As in Amazon style, the tent inside was half the size of the box. Perfect!
After our wonderful Disney trip and a few days of recovery Victoria and I set up the tent before she headed back to school. Since the ground was still covered with snow much to my families surprise we set it up in the living room. I am happy to report no fights broke out between Victoria and me, just a few good laughs and teamwork…mostly:)
She went right to work skipping any directions. She had the tent spread out on the floor and was unfolding the rods and threading them through the tent while I was LOOKing for the directions.
“I don’t need no stinkin’ directions” was the thought in my head as she was setting up the tent successfully while I am still LOOKing for the directions.
Tent set up a success...Next, at my suggestion, we pulled out the camping pads and sleeping bags and loaded them into the tent. One pad just rolls out the second and new pad requires air. I’m off LOOKing for the pump and Victoria again accomplished the task. She is a can-do girl!!! Getting it done fast and efficiently!!
Time to try it out! We both climb in the tent in the living room and climb in our sleeping bags. I am lying there thinking…and then verbalized. “This is nice in the living room BUT outside in a campground at night in the dark is another thing altogether.” She said “Mom, just imagine the stars and the peepers and the smell of pine” and then scurried out of the tent. I’m still in my sleeping bag contemplating this thought she came back with her phone and a small pillow. My daughter is a riot! She has me close my eyes and imagine the stars and then plays peepers from her phone and sticks the pine-scented pillow under my nose and camping we go!

I actually fell asleep in the tent all snuggled in my sleeping bag. I REALLY hope it is this easy on our trip. When I woke up Victoria was gone…so I packed up the tent and got back into the small bag. Success!!! First camping hurdle accomplished!!! Now to purchase bug repellant, bear spray, and dura flame logs.
EPIC trip aka theMADtravel HERE WE COME!!
