Time to get back to planning!!
Last week Victoria and I had a “discussion” about booking reservations. Although our “discussions” have improved tremendously they still start out in a higher volume…BUT I am pleased to say we are getting much better at listening to each other.
The problem for this "discussion", I want to leave a little flexibility and Victoria wants it ALL planned. I am a planner too but I also realize how much energy driving will take and I may need additional rest at certain points along the way.
We were planning mid-June for our trip. Seattle, Washington to Portland, Oregon to the Cascade Mountains where Victoria would prefer to camp. I’m sure you can see the issue…it's the camping thing again! I'm still trying to reconcile in my head how this is all going to work for me. Yep…I am being a little selfish. I do think it has to do with the fact I have camped and Victoria has not.
Camping is buggy, dark, no toilet close by and can be wet and cold which is really not a thrill.
Let me share one particular outdoor adventure I feel I was lucky to come out alive BUT happy to have had the experience but doing it again…hmmmmm not sure??? Camping not included!
Park City, Utah a beautiful place Victoria and I had the pleasure of going together a few years ago. She decided we should go snowmobiling. I was like “OK” I did this when I was younger in my neighbor's yard, didn’t occur to me I was actually never driving but on the back of the snowmobile. So…we make plans and head out to enjoy a day of snowmobiling. It started with wearing someone else's clothing and helmet. YUCK!! ok…got through that and then a long bus ride up a steep windy road in a bus…ok got through that… Then learning how to actually drive a snowmobile because we each had our own...ok got through that...I was actually driving! Victoria and I know to never share because we both want control. Now we are happily driving around a picturesque field of snow and I am really enjoying myself thankfully no one can see my silly grin:)
They bring us up on top of a cliff…did you hear me??? a CLIFF!!!! Then they give us instructions…I am thinking REALLY??? you want me to go off the cliff on this snowmobile??? I didn’t want to seem like an old lady so I decided Ok…I can do this! Then we all line up to take our turn. I think OK…I can do this! It is my turn and the guide is standing on the edge of the CLIFF signals me to go. Can I do this???
As I pass by him about to fly off a CLIFF. He yells “DON’T TOUCH THE BRAKE” I am thinking the whole way down “WHAT??? DON’T TOUCH THE BRAKE, DON’T TOUCH THE BRAKE, DON’T TOUCH THE BRAKE!!!! ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME!!! “
I made it!!! It was a total rush but ONCE was enough!! Victoria, on the other hand, went several more times. WOW!! A new respect and a bit of fear for my daughter:) She clearly loves a thrill in the outdoors.
However, I think camping is a bit different. Yes, you are enjoying the outdoors but its buggy, dark, no toilet close by and can be wet and cold which is really not a thrill. To camp or not to camp??? Because I love my daughter and because of the price of a campground vs. a hotel we are CAMPING.
We have two nights to camp in the Cascade Mountains but “we”, well actually I decided to book one night and leave the other night flexible, possibly for a hotel??? The campground cost is about $25.00 so if we have to cancel SHHHHH….this is what I am thinking…it would be a small investment in 2 nights in a hotel. Victoria has agreed...progress!!!
P.S. I shared this post with Victoria and she commented..."It was a hill, Mom!" insert laughter and eye roll here! Clearly we remember this differently!
Did you notice I gave you a little teaser on part of our itinerary? Everyone is asking for details. Stay tuned more details to follow next week.
