Have you ever experienced the registry in Massachusetts?
Well, it is a treat!! Wall to wall people waiting with blank stares on their faces.
I learned something new last week. AAA now has a registry division in its location in Acton, MA. I walked in and to my surprise along the wall, sitting in chairs where people with those same blank stares. I thought what??
I then saw the sign for “The Registry” and thought oh "Phew!" I do not need to wait in this line! I stood there for a minute or two contemplating this decision to walk past all of these people. I saw two women talking who obviously worked at AAA because they did not have blank stares and were not sitting in chairs (anyone catch the rhyme?) and they were standing under the travel sign. My chance to jump the line!
I approached these women deep in conversation. “Excuse me, do you still make Triptiks?” “Yes”, was the reply thankfully not “Go back and stand in line.” She asked, “When are you going?” I guess my answer was acceptable because then she asked “Where are you going?” again acceptable…”write it down” was next. Then I proudly ripped out my paper with the list of our stops (yes! it's official. I bet you are curious:) She then became intrigued and told me she couldn't do it now but to add my contact information. I dutifully did as I was asked with no questions figuring at least I'm not standing well…sitting in line.
Then she ended her conversation and began discussing the EPIC Mother/Daughter trip, brought me over to her computer and began typing away. At first, she showed me how to do it. Ok, I get it no time now, it is a do it yourself thing but I don’t have the fun machine which makes it into Triptik. Have you ever seen a Triptik? Well…I haven't this is my first and I am so excited!! It shows you traffic woes or construction/advisory, time of travel, a map to follow along and thumb tacks in your stops (so cute) and Scenic Byways. So old fashioned and you know Victoria is going to roll her eyes at me but it will, I think will be useful to see the trip all laid out. I do know we will be using GPS on our phone BUT just in case the phone method does not work we have a backup, besides this service is FREE (with my membership) and I have always wanted a Triptik!
The AAA lady continues and says I "can't take this trip" or at least the computer says we “can't get there from here” but she perseveres and we are on our way. Fun to see the trip developing!! We only make it Mt. Rushmore and she realizes I have used up my allotted time and says she will continue to work on it. GREAT!! I say “Thank you” with a big smile.
Then as I am walking away she calls “NEXT” and someone with a blank stare gets up out of the chair. I am thinking…Oh, I guess I was supposed to wait in line. WOOPS!!
